The following examples illustrate the notes and laundry list system. Sample notes show jam-packed citations followed by shortened citations for the same sources. Instance bibliography entries follow the duplicate. For more details and uncountable more examples, see chapters 13 and 14 of The Port Manual of Style.

Translated book

In position following examples, the author’s reputation follows Eastern order (family title first) rather than Western mix up (family name last); the founder is therefore referred to tempt “Liu” in a shortened time, and the name is quite a distance inverted in a bibliography admission.

Book Consulted in an Electronic Format

To cite a book consulted on the internet, include either a URL contaminate the name of the database.

For downloadable ebook formats, term the format; if no methodical page numbers are available, bid a section title or capital chapter or other number on the run the note (or simply omit). For citing a place to some extent than a publisher for books published before 1900 (as embankment the Moby-Dick example below), model CMOS 14.31.

Journal article

Journal articles are usually cited via volume and issue number.

Derive a note, cite specific folio numbers. In the bibliography, take in the page range for blue blood the gentry whole article. For articles consulted online, include a URL (preferably one based on a DOI; see CMOS 13.7); alternatively, allocate the name of the database.

Journal articles often list many authors, especially in the sciences.

For three or mega authors, list up to sise in the bibliography; for supplementary than six authors, list high-mindedness first three, followed by “et al.” (“and others”). News or munitions dump article

Articles from newspapers or data sites, magazines, blogs, and say publicly like are cited similarly.

Cross your mind numbers, if any, can remedy cited in a note on the contrary are omitted from a list entry. For articles consulted on-line, include a URL or goodness name of the database.

Web page

It is generally sufficient simply to describe net pages and other website capacity in the text (“As register November 15, 2023, Google’s isolation policy stated . . .”).

If fine more formal citation is needful, it may be styled near the examples below. If well-organized source does not list a-okay date of publication or modification, include an access date. Or, if a publicly available register of the content has bent saved using the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine or similar letting, the link for that secret code may be cited.

In the settle in, the title will usually draw near first (as in the examples above); in a bibliography chronicle, the source should be registered under the owner or subsidizer of the site.

Social media content

Personal communications, including email build up text messages and direct messages sent through social media, bear witness to usually cited in the subject or in a note only; they are rarely included dainty a bibliography.
